Energy efficiency grant for small businesses

Your business or non-profit organisation could be eligible for grant money to improve your organisation’s energy efficiency or reduce its carbon emissions.

What you can get

You can apply for grant money to improve the energy efficiency of your organisation or minimise its carbon emissions. This can reduce your operating costs.

You could receive:

  • up to £1,500 for works such as upgrading your lighting to LEDs or upgrading equipment
  • up to £5,000 for replacing a gas boiler with a heat pump

Eligibility

The grant scheme is open to all organisations (business or non-profit) who:

  • are in Islington;
  • have less than 50 employees;
  • and have a turnover of less than £10million.

In addition, you must be planning to use the grant for your organisation's premises.

You cannot use it for homes where an organisation is based. You cannot use the grant for work that is necessary to meet legal requirements.

How to apply

You can apply online. You'll be asked to provide information about:

  • what measure(s) you are requesting the funding for
  • any additional environmental benefits to your proposed measure(s)
  • what you are doing to minimise energy use in your organisation

How we assess your application

Following your application, we will arrange a visit to your premises to discuss it in person and verify the potential works.

We will calculate the savings that your project will make to make a final decision on whether to award funding.

For the £1,500 grant, you will only be awarded funding if the measures reduce energy use by 20%. This is as long as they do not conflict with good energy or environmental practice. For example, new lighting must use at least 20% less energy than the existing lighting.

If you are successful

  • You must provide two quotes for the works. We will award funding for the lower quote, up to a value of £1,500 (or up to £5,000 for a heat pump).
  • You must spend the funds within six months of receiving your money.
  • If you do not carry out the works or do not provide the council with copies of relevant invoices within the six-month time, you must repay the money to the council. If you spend less than you were awarded, you must repay the difference.
  • It will be your responsibility to fund any ongoing maintenance for the measures you installed.
  • You must complete a follow-up survey 12 months after your grant award.
