As technology has changed, and with increased use of Sat Navs and apps like Google Maps and Waze, we’ve seen more and more traffic looking for short-cuts along residential streets.
Bath Street has seen a significant increase in traffic volumes from the use of the road as a cut through. This is partly due to the impacts of the transformation of Old Street roundabout which has increased traffic, noise and pollution levels on Bath Street.
Consequently, the council is developing a proposal to reduce these negative impacts and improve safety to make it easier to walk, cycle, and use buggies and wheelchairs.
Consultation update
Consultation on the proposals to reverse Bath Street took place between 13 December 2021 and 16 January 2022. Thank you to everyone who provided their feedback.
Unfortunately, the design that that was presented at public consultation requires amendments to ensure that traffic reduction can be achieved and enforced whilst improving access to emergency services.
The council is working on revised designs with TfL. The new design will incorporate further enhancements such as greening and planters to further improve the street environment for local residents, particularly pedestrians and cyclists.
The new design will be subject to a new consultation in September 2022 with implementation planned by March 2023.
