Suspend a parking bay

Apply to temporarily stop anyone being able to use a parking bay or multiple parking bays, for example for maintenance work, construction, or filming.

A parking bay may be a large stretch of parking area and it may contain multiple parking spaces. We can only suspend parking spaces on the public highway.

We cannot suspend yellow lines, zebra crossings or keep clear areas. The council is not responsible for suspensions on red routes, or private roads.

Costs

Residents

The cost for a resident to suspend a space or a whole bay is £133.40 for the first day. This is for as many spaces within the bay as required. For additional days, the charge is £42.70 for each parking space per day, excluding Sundays and bank holidays.

Businesses

The cost for a business or utility company to suspend a space or whole bay is £266.75 for the first day. For additional days, the charge is £42.70 for each parking space per day, excluding Sundays and bank holidays.

Advanced warning notices

We display notices to give advance warning to other parking users before a suspension begins.

Where possible, these notices will be displayed on streets for residential parking with 10 days’ notice.

When to apply

For Pay By Phone parking bays, you must apply at least 10 days before the date you want the suspension to begin.

For all other types of parking bay, you must apply at least 14 days before the date you want the suspension to begin.

If you’re applying for an extension, you must apply and pay at least four working days before the current suspension ends.
