About the Covid-19 vaccine

The vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and others from Covid-19. If you haven’t had your first, second or booster vaccine, it isn’t too late, and every dose gives you extra protection.

All the different types of vaccine have undergone the same rigorous tests as other medicines to ensure they are safe.

Five to 11 years Covid-19 vaccinations

Five to 11 year olds are able to get the Covid-19 vaccine. The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) recommends that five to 11 year olds be offered the vaccine, which has been approved by the UK’s medicines regulator, to boost immunity and increase their protection against any future waves of Covid-19.

Children aged five to 11 with no other underlying health conditions will be offered two paediatric (child) doses of the vaccine, with at least 12 weeks between doses. A paediatric dose is smaller than a dose given to those aged 12 and over.

You can make an appointment through the National Booking Service or you can call 119 or your GP to book an appointment if you can’t book online.

Long Covid

For some people, Covid-19 can cause symptoms that last weeks or months after the infection has gone, known as long Covid or post-Covid syndrome.

Many people feel better in a few days or weeks, and most will make a full recovery within 12 weeks. But for some people, symptoms can last longer. People who had mild symptoms at first can still have long-term problems.

You can find more information about long Covid and resources and support on the North Central London NHS page.
