How to stay safe and keep others safe

Advice for everyone

There are things we can all do to reduce the risk of catching and transmitting COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses, like flu, on to others – these include:

  • Vaccination – if you’re eligible topping up your immunity with flu and COVID-19 vaccinations, can help keep you and others safe.
  • Hygiene measures - making sure we all practice good hygiene measures,  including regularly washing our hands and following the ‘Catch it, Bin it, Kill it’ guidance.
  • Good ventilation - ensuring enclosed spaces you are using are well ventilated.

Wearing a face mask can also help to reduce the risk of infection, particularly when you are in close contact with someone at higher risk of becoming unwell and when in crowds when levels of infection are high.

You can find more advice for staying safe on the Government's website.

On our staying healthy this winter page there is more information on who’s eligible for flu and COVID-19 vaccines and where you can get access to these in the borough.

Advice for employers and workforce managers

While there is no longer a requirement for all employers to explicitly consider COVID-19 in their statutory health and safety risk assessments, it is important that as a business, organisation or an employer you continue to comply with your legal obligations relating to health and safety, employment and equality duties.

Advice and guidance on how to reduce risk in your workplace is available on the Government's website - including what to look out for and what to do if a member of staff has symptoms of respiratory infection.
