Have you considered how you and your colleagues travel to work and move around Islington?

People-friendly streets

Islington is a compact borough, offering lots of opportunities to walk and discover green spaces and places of interest. Islington Council has recently introduced the people-friendly streets initiative to make it greener, healthier, and safer than ever to travel around our borough.

View a map of school streets, low traffic neighbourhoods and cycleways to find safer, more enjoyable walking and cycling routes.

You can find and support the development of useful and interesting walking routes on the footways map.

Encouraging cycling

Cycling is a healthy, low-cost and environmentally friendly way to travel. By providing schemes like Cyclescheme, you can help employees purchase bicycles and accessories in an affordable, tax-efficient way.

You could also consider on-site facilities such as secure cycle parking, lockers and changing facilities to encourage staff to cycle to work.

Islington Council is working with Peddle My Wheels to provide a low cost Try Before You Bike scheme for trialling and purchasing bikes for Islington businesses and residents, from as little as £20 per month. Free cycle skills training is also available to people working in Islington, to help them grow in confidence when cycling.

Public transport

There are many ways to get to and around Islington by public transport. With several Underground and Overground stations and good bus routes, it is easy to get to work and meetings across London.

Season tickets make commuting much cheaper. Many employers offer an interest-free or low-interest season ticket loan. This is where the employer purchases a season ticket for an employee and takes repayments from their net salary in monthly instalments.

Visit the Transport for London website to plan your journey, find where to hire a Santander cycle, or find out which bus route will take you to your destination.
