Islington Dementia Strategy 2025 - 2035
Our Dementia Strategy for 2025-2035 sets out how residents are supported on the dementia journey; from prevention to diagnosis through to end of life.
Our shared vision for dementia
Vision
We want Islington to be a place where residents feel well supported on the dementia journey; from prevention to diagnosis and through to end of life.
This strategy is supported by the Islington Borough Partnership, which includes senior representation from key public sector organisations in Islington, including London Borough of Islington, North Central London Integrated Care Board, North London Mental Health Partnership, Whittington Health, University College London Hospitals, Islington GP Federation, Healthwatch Islington, Age UK and representatives of the Islington Voluntary and Community Sector.
This means having the information and advice to support individuals to make the right choices for themselves. We want residents to receive care and support from compassionate services that understand the people they support. We want Islington to be a place where people affected by dementia are valued and supported to live well and be active participants in the community.
We recognise that dementia affects carers as much as the person living with the condition. Islington’s priorities for carers are outlined in the Adult Carers Strategy 2024 - 2030.
Partnership approach
We recognise that dementia affects every part of a person’s life and the lives of family and friends. Everyone has a role to play in making this strategy become reality including council services, health services, our voluntary and community sector and care providers but also businesses and individuals in our community. To develop the strategy, we spoke with around 150 residents and 120 professionals from the partner organisations to; understand the experience of people living with dementia, map out the existing offer in Islington and identify the gaps we need to close to improve outcomes for residents.
Islington residents
Residents are at the heart of the development of the strategy. We spoke to over 150 residents, including people living with dementia and their carers via interviews, group discussions, engagement events and an online survey.
The Dementia Reference Group helped to shape and sense check the draft priorities.
